Henderson's New Innovation District Courts Cleantech Startups

Henderson officials have launched a marketing push aimed at attracting clean energy and advanced manufacturing startups to a newly designated innovation district on the city's east side, hoping to build on the momentum of the region's existing battery and clean energy manufacturers.

The district offers streamlined permitting and reduced impact fees for qualifying companies, an approach city economic development staff say is meant to compete directly with similar incentive packages offered in neighboring states.

Early tenants include a handful of battery component suppliers and a solar hardware startup relocating from California, according to city officials. Supporters say the district benefits from Henderson's existing industrial infrastructure and its proximity to the workforce already trained by larger manufacturers in the area.

City council members have asked staff to report back annually on job creation tied to the incentives, a condition added after past incentive programs drew criticism for insufficient tracking of promised outcomes.
