Reno Salons Respond to a New Wave of Sanitation Scrutiny
Reno-area salons are updating visible sanitation practices as customers ask more pointed questions about cleanliness standards.
Salon owners across the Reno area say customers are asking more direct questions about sanitation practices than they did just a few years ago, a shift that has prompted several businesses to update how visibly they communicate their cleaning procedures.
Where sterilization equipment was once kept mostly out of sight, a growing number of salons now display autoclave certifications and single-use tool policies directly at check-in stations. Owners describe the change as customer-driven rather than regulatory, though several noted that state inspection standards have also become more rigorously enforced in recent years.
Not every business has adapted at the same pace. Smaller, owner-operated salons say the cost of upgrading equipment or adding dedicated sanitation staff time can be harder to absorb than for larger operations, even when the underlying practices meet required standards.
Consumer advocates recommend that customers feel comfortable asking salons directly about tool sterilization and licensing before booking, noting that a business's willingness to answer clearly is often as telling as the answer itself.
