Henderson's Restaurant Week Highlights a Growing Dining Identity
Henderson's annual restaurant week showcased a dining scene increasingly distinct from its larger neighbor to the west.
Henderson's annual restaurant week wrapped up this week with participation from a record number of independently owned restaurants, an event organizers say reflects a dining scene that has developed its own identity separate from the Las Vegas Strip a short drive away.
Unlike the Strip's celebrity-chef-driven dining culture, Henderson's participating restaurants leaned heavily toward family-owned, first-generation immigrant-run kitchens representing a wide range of cuisines. Organizers say that diversity has become the event's defining feature over its several years of existence.
Restaurant owners reported strong turnout throughout the week, with several noting that the prix-fixe format introduced new customers who might not have otherwise tried their restaurant. A handful of participating spots said they plan to keep modified versions of their restaurant week menus as permanent additions.
City officials say they are exploring an expanded spring edition of the event, citing this year's turnout as evidence of sustained demand.
