Combat Sports Community Grows Around Southern Nevada's Gyms
A growing network of boxing and mixed martial arts gyms is turning southern Nevada into a training hub beyond its professional fight scene.
Southern Nevada's reputation as a hub for major professional fight cards has long overshadowed a quieter but steadily growing scene: a network of local boxing and mixed martial arts gyms training amateur and youth athletes across the region.
Gym owners say enrollment in youth combat sports programs has grown significantly over the past several years, driven partly by parents seeking structured physical activity for their children and partly by the visibility of professional fighters who train locally between major events.
Several gyms have added dedicated youth curricula focused on discipline and fitness fundamentals rather than competitive fighting, a shift owners say has broadened the sport's appeal beyond families already interested in competitive combat sports.
Regional amateur boxing and grappling tournaments have grown alongside the gyms, giving local athletes a competitive pathway that did not exist at the same scale a decade ago.
